MATRIARCHY
The colors of
this hankie take me back to my childhood: the yellow roses climbing the
side of grandma's porch, and the pink and blue gingham housedresses my
relatives wore. My mother, grandmother, aunts, and great aunts all
loved me, kept me (too) safe, and raised me to be just like them.
But the times
they were a changin' and I eventually became the real me instead. When I
heard Joseph Campbell utter the words "follow your bliss," I realized
that's what I had been doing as I found my own path.
And now, years later, here I am doing embroidery, just like all
those dear women used to do.
