Warm Memories
Bobbie Malone
Materials: Organza doily hand-dyed at Blue Bar by Terry Lichtenfelt, embroidery floss, cotton thread hand-dyed at Blue Bar by Leslee Nelson, old buttons, cotton batting, cotton quilting fabric left over from previous projects
As much as I enjoy looking at hand-dyed fabric, I didn’t love the process. I gave an antique doily to Terry to experiment with—and keep—but once she dyed it, she returned it to me. I did not know what I might do with it until the idea of the Bits & Pieces exhibit emerged. When I took the doily out of my box of remnants, I began to assemble the collage immediately. I used the batting for body (two layers for the center), since quilting was a large part of Terry’s creative life as it is of mine—even though she expertly used a machine, while I do everything by hand. The piece is a tribute to the friendship I will always cherish.
Like very much
